Elysian Fields (2021 - 2022)

Elysian Fields presents itself as a bridge between reality and utopia, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of eternal gardens. This location, a theme of ancient literature, is traditionally seen as a realm on the edge of the known world, reserved for the souls of the brave, where harmony and peace prevail. I imagine it as a place where nature thrives spontaneously, without human intervention; an expanse of flowers whose natural qualities invite us to reflect on the need to reconnect with the essential values and simplicity. Inspired by Klimt’s flowering meadows, I developed a painting technique based upon layering and monochromatic tones, thus restoring a nostalgic atmosphere of a lost world where the fields still retain their original purity, unblemished by human exploitation. Campi Elisi evokes the utopian condition of a paradise that is not consigned to the otherworldly, but instead possible here and now, in the world in which we live. It is an invitation to imagine a future where harmony with nature is not a lost memory, but rather a reality to be cherished and regenerated. In this space, suspended between the myth and the possible, viewers not only contemplate an ideal landscape – they recognise in it a reflection of what the world could still become.

Phloem (2016 - 2018)

Phloem is the vital flow that runs down from a tree’s trunk to its roots, connecting it to the earth that nourishes it. This cycle of works was created as a tribute to trees, which are now acknowledged as vital and relational beings: through the sap that flows through them and the underground connections that bind them, they form mutually supporting networks, revealing themselves not only as a resource, but as a form of intelligence, interaction and shared life. I use spot painting to translate this energy flow, reinterpreting and intensifying the approach of the Macchiaioli group and of more recent artists such as Leo Putz and Lucian Freud. The colour palette verges on the monochrome, preferring related shades to enhance the delicacy and uniqueness of each colour, thus giving each work its own atmosphere, one that evokes the spirit of the seasons. Floema invites us to see the infinite connections that bind all living beings to one another. The tree, with its harmony of relationships and ability to reciprocally support the life around it, is thus a model of utopian society where cooperation becomes the very root of coexistence.

Mount in/out Side (2007 - 2012)

The way we perceive mountains reflects individual and social conditions. Mount in/out Side explores this idea and takes us on a journey along a hypothetical historical axis to examine the different ways mountains have been perceived and represented in the past and today. There are references to medieval iconography and culture, naturalism and symbolism, leading to the use of conceptual language in some sculptural works that address contemporary issues: the massification of the tourist experience, exploitation for recreational and commercial purposes, and the meaning that mountains have today in a society increasingly focused on urbanisation. With this series of works, I am trying to address an issue that, living in the Alps, affects me greatly and influences the life and politics of the people of this land.
